My love for treasure hunting is a gene I inherited from my Grandmother.
Saturday mornings in the summer always started with tattooing the classifieds with red circles and stars and the jingle of an old coin purse weighted down with quarters. I’m convinced her wood paneled station wagon could read as it seemed to automatically steer itself towards any yard sale signs posted on the side of the road.
My first apartment was filled with secondhand scores from thrift stores and rummage sales. Each piece I painted or updated in my Grandmother’s driveway before it finally made its way up the never ending stairs to my humble second floor abode.
Years later I updated the guest bedroom in our house before my Mom came for her yearly visit from Florida. I had painted a few extra pieces of furniture that I decided didn’t work in the space. I hauled two chairs and a demi table to a local consignment shop to sell and from there my dream took form.
I started peddling my wares at local flea markets and eventually selling them in consignment stores and booth rentals.
In 2015, with the support of my Husband, family and friends, Lulu Birds came to fruition when I finally took a leap of faith and opened a brick and mortar.
